How Does the Chemistry System Work in FC 25?

FC 25 Game Tips

Whether you’re new to FUT or a seasoned veteran of the beloved game, you’ve definitely encountered the chemistry system. The FC 25 chemistry system is a feature implemented to make your squad building more challenging and a tad bit more realistic. The different modifiers and conditions to achieve a high chemistry rating can be confusing for newcomers, so in this post we will be going through the basics of the FC 25 chemistry system for beginners, all the way to pro tips for more experienced, competitive players. So keep reading and make sure you make it to the end of the post to get the full picture and learn how to make the perfect squad!

What exactly is chemistry in FC 25 and why it matters?

Think of it this way – when you’re playing football in real life, you’d probably favor kicking the ball with some of your buddies that you regularly play with, not some strangers you don’t have any idea of how they play, their habits, etc. We all have that one friend that just LOVES to attempt at a shot from the middle of the pitch, and when we know his habit, it’s just second nature not to pass at him until he’s well-positioned inside the box.

That’s the whole idea of the FC 25 chemistry system: The squad that you’re building in FUT should be harmonious – players need specific “links” to perform at the top of their game. You’ll notice the chemistry indicator for each player at the bottom right corner of their card with three diamond shapes, which means that each player can have a chemistry score of zero, 1, 2, or 3 (max). The higher the chemistry score on a player, the more boosted their attributes become! A team with higher chemistry score can benefit from better positioning by players, more accurate passes and crosses, better performance when chemistry styles are implemented, and an overall stronger team.

But how can I earn chemistry points in FC 25?

That’s the million-dollar question, and here’s the simple answer: by creating links between players based on three things: team, league, and nationality. Non-icon and non-hero players get a chemistry point for each link created via shared team, shared league or the same nationality. Here’s how players get chemistry points in more detail:

  • +1 chemistry point when two players are from the same club or country
  • +1 chemistry point when three players are from the same league
  • +2 chemistry points when four players are from the same club
  • +2 chemistry points when five players are from the same country or league
  • +3 chemistry points when seven players are from the same club
  • +3 chemistry points when eight players are from the same country or league
all things you need to know about chemistry in fc 25 ultimate team

Let’s look at an example: If you have William Saliba as a CB and Martin Ødegaard as a CM, they will form a link over their shared club, Arsenal, and hence, both will get a chemistry point. Pair Saliba with Virgil van Dijk at CB and you will have three players from the premier league, therefore all three receive another point (Ødegaard and Saliba will have 2 overall and van Dijk will have 1).

And now for a very important warning: In order to be eligible to receive chemistry points in the first place, you have to play your players in their natural position!

Of course, we know you won’t do that – nobody in their right mind would play Mbappe at center back just to get chemistry points with Vini Jr. at the left wing only because they have Ronaldo Nazario at ST. But we had to remind you that position matters. So always prioritize your players’ preferred positions before aiming to maximize the chemistry of your team.

It is also important to note that as long as your players are assigned to their preferred positions, they can form links with each other regardless of their position (for example, a Spanish goalkeeper and a Spanish striker will form a link and receive 1 chemistry point each, if they’re being deployed as a goalkeeper and striker respectively). This is perhaps the most drastic change from the old FC chemistry system, in which positional links were limiting to creating links (for example, forwards couldn’t form a link with the goalkeeper and receive chemistry points).

Special Cards: Icons, Heroes, Manager and League Modifier Consumable

Icons and Heroes are not only some of the strongest cards in the game from a stats and attributes point of view, but they are also special in FC 25 chemistry system since they can boost your chemistry score. First of all, each and every Icon and Hero, when deployed in their preferred position, will receive a full 3 chemistry points. It’s easy to see how this can be a massive instant boost to your overall chemistry score. But that’s not all! Icons count as two players when they form a link based on nationality, and one towards any league. Heroes on the other hand are the other way around: they count as two players when they form a link based on league, and one towards their nationality. So for example, If you have Saliba as CB and pair him with a Hero Jamie Carragher, Saliba will receive a chemistry point since Carragher’s Premier League tie counts as double. Carragher as a hero receives a full 3 chemistry points.

Another way to boost your team’s chemistry score is by assigning managers that can form links with your players based on nationality and league. So for example, Pep Guardiola can form a link with Dani Carvajal since they are both Spaniards, or can form a link with Andy Robertson since they’re both active in the Premier League. But it’s important to note that managers can only form one link with each player. So for example in the case for Guardiola, if you have a Rodri in your team, only one of his links of nationality (Spain) or league (Premier League) would be counted. Keep that in mind so you don’t mistakenly over count your manager’s influence on team chemistry!

Finally, a lesser known tool for enhancing your team’s chemistry is using the League Modifier consumable. Using this consumable can change the league of a player or manager, an help creating new links for higher chemistry.

Some FAQs about chemistry in FC 25

Will a low chemistry score negatively affect my player?

Will a low chemistry score negatively affect my player

No it won’t – This has been changed since FC 23. Deploying your player at their preferred position with zero chemistry will only result in them performing according to their base stats.

Will substitutes impact the chemistry score?

No they won’t – and you can use this to your advantage! Many pros build their squad to the maximum chemistry, only to sub off a player right at the kick off for a better player that would have not contributed to team chemistry in the starting XI.

Do men and women players link?

Yes, they do! They can form links regardless of their gender. Just make sure the links are there!

What is the maximum chemistry point for a team in FC 25?

Since each player in a starting XI can get up to 3 chemistry points, the overall would be 33.
